Wendy & Dick lost a couple of fellow park friends in a small plane crash early in the year. Both of them left behind young families. Wendy, Dick & Chris also had an accident with their van on the way to Strasbourg. Other than a few stitches for Dick everyone was fine. The van needed major surgery though. Wendy, Dick, Chris, Wes, Karen & Kim were all at Elinor & Ingolf's for Easter.
Uncle Eric Obal (married to Bertha Uhl) passed away on June 8.
Reinhold & Grace are moving to Innisfail, Alberta in the fall. They will be missed but we all wish them the best. Cousin Dave Uhl has bought the home quarter from them. Great news to keep it in the family!
Cousin Fern & Ken of Stettler are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary in September this year by throwing themselves a party.
Sharon & Wally's house survived the Great Winnipeg Flood of the Century. At one point the people across the street were put on 24 hour evacuation notice but that was canceled without any of them having to leave.
Maryann's mom, Joyce Payak was in hospital in Weyburn and Regina in May. She is home now and receiving home care help. Axel has a very busy time planned. He recently gave some lectures in Heidelberg, along with his brother Jurgen. In July he will be giving lectures in San Francisco, Washington and New York, before flying to Nova Scotia to spend a couple of days with Roy at the end of July, then flying to Sask to spend time with the family while Jo-Anne is there.
From there he plans to drive to B.C. to visit Jim's family, then back to Sask and fly home from there.
Any spare time that he isn't working is spent on his motorcycle, exploring his own country.
Axel's father, Otto, has had health problems recently. He had thyroid surgery in June and is recovering well at home. He resumed a reduced work schedule shortly after that. He hopes that the latest surgery will correct the problems he was having.
Diane & Gerry are hosting a "pot luck" supper at their home on August 6th. All are welcome to attend.
Dad's a happy man since the Detroit Red Wings FINALLY won the Stanley Cup. He & Evelyn have been doing yard work, at home and at the old graveyard. They drove to Moosomin in June to attend Uncle Eric's funeral. Evelyn went to a lake at Watrous with her sister & others to go swimming in the salt water.
Jim was busy buying cars again early in the year. His latest favorite was a '66 Valiant that Sonya has taken. He continues to work at the garage in Fort Langley but is now part-time again since the owner is back in good health.
Maryann was working reduced hours at Revenue Canada and is now off completely for a few weeks. They are moving into another house nearby at the end of July. Steven & Meredith plan on moving in with them. It's a great way for everyone to share expenses.
