Apple Strudel |
2 cups flour 1 tbsp flour about 3/4 cup water |
The water should be warm and the butter melted. Mix all ingredients together to form a fairly light dough. It is hard to give you the exact amount of water necessary, but the dough should be about as stiff as bread dough. Knead this until it is smooth as elastic, then place it on a bread board and cover with a warmed bowl and let stand in a warm place while you prepare the crumbs. Fry 1 1/4 cups of fine bread crumbs in 4 tbsp of butter until they are crisp and well browned, let them cool. Peel and slice 4 apples into very thin slices. After stretching dough on a table cloth sprinkled with flour (rub a little melted butter on dough before stretching), brush with melted butter, then sprinkle with browned crumbs, the sliced apples, sugar and cinnamon. Roll it in jelly roll fashion. Set rolls in pans side by side, sprinkle with melted butter and bake in moderate oven at 375 for 15 minutes or until apples are tender. |
