Bill Adolph Uhl was born April 3, 1910 at Regina, Sask to John and Willhilmina Uhl. He was raised on his parents' farm at Strasbourg, Sask. Bill and his brother John helped with the many chores. Bill especially enjoyed working with the horses. In 1942 Bill moved to North Vancouver B.C. where he was employed at a saw mill. He later worked as a millwright at Burrard Dry Docks. During this time Bill tried to enlist in the army, but he failed the medical. His disappointment was tempered by a new budding relationship with a young lady named Margaret Larson. Bill and Margaret were married on January 21, 1944 - they set up house in North Vancouver. Later Bill worked as a fireman at a local fish packing plant. All three of their children - Lorne, Dianne, and Fern - were born in North Vancouver. In 1952 the Uhl family moved to a dairy farm at Aldergrove, B.C. In 1961 the family left B.C. and settled in Moosomin, Sask. Bill worked in the farming business, as well as tackling a variety of other jobs, such as carpentry, and working in the potash industry. In 1965 Bill and his family left Moosomin and resided in several places (Gerald, Sask., Claresholm, Alta). In 1985 Bill and Margaret moved to a home in Hanna. Bill enjoyed his life in Hanna. Hunting and fishing soon gave way to gardening. On Thanksgiving Sunday he helped to decorate our church by displaying a giant sunflower plant. Bill also enjoyed building things and tinkering around in his shop. He loved the outdoors and often walked along the CNR Dam Lake. Bill was a generous and faithful member of our church. When we needed an outside storage building for the new location - he rallied to the cause. In spite of good health Bill died suddenly this past Wednesday, February 1, 1995. Bill is predeceased by brothers John, Herman and Werner and their parents. He is survived by his son Lorne (Barbara), daughters Dianne (George), Fern (Ken), and his dear wife Margaret ... brothers Frank, Fred, Carl, Reinhold, Wilf, Erwin, and sisters, Bertha, Elsie, Eleanor, Laura, Helen and two grandchildren and one great grandchild, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
