Welcome to a "Homecoming" Edition of the Uhl Chatterbox. I felt the wheat field theme of the paper was perfect. I got the idea from Don who used it in one of his credit union presentations. It was a homecoming because that's where we all were, home. I can't begin to express how happy it makes me to be back home in familiar surroundings with the family all there too. We had a wonderful time, many of us getting together often just to enjoy each others' company. A special feature of our homecoming was the presence of our "long lost" cousin Axel. Actually, I'm pretty sure that he's never been lost but I do like the sound of the phrase. Axel first heard of us when he saw the home page Chris had on the Internet. Axel shares our name - Uhl. He asked Chris if we might be related, Chris referred him to me and the rest is history. We were all surprised and very happy that Axel decided to join us. I have started a new section in the paper "Missing Link" and it is so named because some of the family decided that he is our missing link to the "old |
country" of Germany. He promises to keep in touch on a regular basis, in fact we have informally adopted him as a family member, whether we can find the connection or not. The fact that he shares our Mom's birthday, March 15, certainly helped us to decide that! Thanks to Axel we are now truly an international newsletter with Europe now joining the U.S. and Canada in our readership area. We are also very proud to note that we received an award this year which was presented to me, as the Editor, while I was in Sask. I was pronounced "Editor of the Year" for 1996! I can only hope that I can do well enough to make this an annual award. With Frank on board as my proof reader I see it as being a definite possibility. They were headed to Toronto in late June or early July for a family vacation. They were attending a wedding of a friend there and also doing some sight seeing. Go to Page 2 |
